Before your copier leaves — erase your data

Most commercial copiers made in the last 15–20 years store copies of everything that has passed through them on an internal hard drive. Before any machine leaves your building, run the built-in data overwrite or sanitization function in the admin settings menu. This is a compliance and liability issue — not just a best practice. If you’re unsure how to do it, consult your IT department or a service technician before pickup day. See our step-by-step selling guide for brand-specific instructions.

    Common questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a quote to sell my used copier?
Fill out the quote form above or contact our purchasing team directly at purchasing@ebu-llc.com or 800.711.2815. Share the brand, model, approximate meter count, and your location. We respond within 6 business hours with a competitive offer based on current market demand — both domestic and international.
How do I find the meter count on my copier?
The meter count is accessible through the control panel on most commercial copiers. On Ricoh machines look under Counter or Inquiry. On Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE go to Settings/Registration then Check Device Configuration. On Konica Minolta bizhub press Utility then Meter Count. On Sharp MX series go to Settings > Status > Machine Identification. See our step-by-step guide for detailed brand-by-brand instructions on six major brands.
Does EBU buy copiers that don’t work?
Yes. Non-working commercial copiers still carry parts value. The offer will reflect the condition, but it won’t be zero. Be as specific as possible about the issue — error codes, whether it powers on, any known mechanical problems — and we’ll give you an honest assessment.
How quickly will EBU pick up my equipment?
Once you accept an offer, we coordinate pickup logistics — typically within a few business days depending on your location and quantity. EBU has warehouses nationwide which allows us to schedule pickups efficiently across the US. For school and government contracts with tight installation timelines, we work to accommodate your schedule.
Do I need to erase the hard drive before EBU picks up my copier?
Yes — and this is important. Most commercial MFPs made in the last 15–20 years store document data on an internal hard drive. Before the machine leaves your possession, run the built-in data overwrite function available in the administrator settings on most major brands. This is a compliance and liability issue for any business that handles sensitive documents. Do this before pickup day, not after — once the machine is picked up it is out of your hands.
Can I sell a leased copier to EBU?
Not directly — the leasing company holds title on a leased machine. If you’re at end of lease, the leasing company handles disposal. If you’re a leasing company managing end-of-term fleet returns, EBU works directly with lessors on bulk acquisitions. Contact our purchasing team to discuss your situation.
Why does EBU pay more than other buyers?
EBU sells into both domestic and international export markets. Equipment that has limited domestic resale value can carry significantly higher value in export markets — and that difference flows back to sellers as higher offers. Buyers limited to domestic-only resale can’t match this. Our export network is one of the primary reasons dealers and institutions who’ve worked with us for 20 and 30 years keep coming back.
